A Return to Earth-Made Colour

Our paints are more than just colours—they are a connection to the land, the Old People, and the spirit of place. Each pigment holds a story, shaped by fire, water, and time.

We name our paints after the Old People of Lutruwita because their spirits still inhabit this place. By naming them, we honour their presence, their custodianship, and ensure that their names are never forgotten. These paints are not just materials; they are spirit.

We take only what is given. Our paints focus on natural pigments and minerals—soils, stones, organic and earth elements that carry their own energy and presence.

To paint with these colours is to connect. To carry forward the voices of the land, to listen to the stories held in the earth, to bring something to life that is more than just an image—it is a remembering. This is why we offer them—not as simple materials, but as a way to honour, to create, and to see colour not just as pigment, but as presence.

Palawa Pigments continues this legacy, creating sustainable, artist-grade paints that allow artists, creatives, and storytellers to paint with the colours of the land.

Whenever possible, we work with locally gathered pigments, carefully crafting each by hand. Every small batch of paint reflects the deep reds of iron-rich earth, the golden sands of the coastline, the shadowed greys of river stoneeach colour holding a story, a history, and a connection to Country. All watercolour paints are made with a natural binder (water, glycerin, sacred honey & clove oil), all made in our little Artist Studio on the island of Lutruwita (Tasmania, Australia).

More Than Paint—An Experience

Whether you are a professional artist or simply someone who wants to slow down and create, Palawa Pigments offers more than just materials—we offer a way to connect, to listen, and to bring stories to life through colour.

Paint with Country. Paint with Story. Paint with Palawa Pigments.
