About Us
Painters, Storytellers, Custodians of Colour
At Palawa Pigments, we create more than just artist-grade paints—we craft a connection to Country, culture, and creativity.
Founded by artists Andrew and Jacquelyn Mansell, Palawa Pigments is a Tasmanian Aboriginal-owned family business rooted in the rich traditions of ochre and natural pigment use. Inspired by the landscapes of lutruwita/Tasmania and beyond, we honour the raw beauty of the earth by transforming natural oragnics & minerals into handmade, high-quality watercolours and art materials.
Through our journey, we have learned not just to create with colour, but to listen—to the land, to the Old People, to the stories held in earth and sky.
Palawa Pigments was born from this journey. A journey of walking with Country, understanding its rhythms, and learning the craft of paint-making not just as a skill, but as a conversation.
The first time we held raw pigment in our hands, we understood: this was not just colour—this was memory, this was story, this was spirit. To turn it into paint was not an act of making, but of honouring.
Now, we share that with others. Through Palawa Pigments, we offer more than paints—we offer a way to connect. A way to slow down, to create with intention, to see your world in a different light and to understand that every stroke carries something deeper than pigment.
Because when you paint with the land, you don’t just create—you remember.
Thank you, Andrew & Jacquelyn Mansell
